What if & You

If I may borrow Juliet’s quote, “What” and “If” are two words as non-threatening as words can be. But put them together side-by-side and they have the power to haunt you for the rest of your life: What if? What if? What if? ” Hold that thought , I’ll get right back to it !

I’ve often heard the most admirable of people say ” follow your heart”, “if you really want it, you’ll get it”, ” success comes to those who dare” and so on…Yes, I agree. They ARE right. One hundred percent. But What if????

What if – you’re success, What if your following your heart? What if your want….comes at a price???? It almost always does, except in the most beautiful of movies! So, what if there’s a price to pay? And What if it’s a price that’s equally ‘unpayable’?

What if the price of your happiness, is your parents’ sorrow?

What if the price of keeping your hand, is to give up a leg?

What if your success, depends on the pain of a loved one?

How do you continue to follow your heart? How do you continue to chase your dreams? How !!!???

Sometimes, the price is so excruciatingly painful, that you don’t have a choice but to give up what’s most dear to you- especially if it involves ties like family. It would be unfair & unjust to assume that the person’s decision was due to non-commitment. No it wasn’t, it was due to being emotionally blackmailed (not intentionally of course) Personal torture that called for an act of sacrifice.

So, some continue on, while some put a rock on their hearts and just do it for the happiness of those around them. Sometimes, we get to hear the true story, sometimes we don’t.

It’s easy to judge. It’s easy to assume. It’s easy to speculate.

It’s hard to carry a rock on your heart for the rest of your life.

It’s painful knowing you could have had a different life. It’s unbearable to imagine- “What if, 30 years ago, I had done what I wanted..” What if ? What if ?

Now, before the noble, practical & society minded lot of you, decide to respond with a vengeance, let me get this out too. It’s one thing to believe in ‘everything happens for our own good’, in destiny & in fate. It’s a completely different story, if destiny show’s you you chose it !

Like I said before, ” What & if “, What if ? What if ? What if ?
